The initial 3 champagne coolers were made in the summer of 2011. We started to cast wax plates which we then bent and welded. From these wax plates we produced the buckets…they were then transformed by me so they have the ripped open handles…

A couple of weeks later sill Brink a skilled bronze caster took over to make lost wax molds and with the casting I helped again.

But now the real work started. because we had to sand the inside of the coolers…that was very laborious we started with sanding paper grad 100 and worked up until paper 800…then we polished it with several steps of hand polishing until we arrived at a mirror surface…

The outside is oxidized. In- and outside is preserved with a thin wax layer.

Chess against a grandmaster

On January the 7th 2012 I had the honor of being invited to Berlin by Archi Galentz of interiorDAsein and Pascal Johanssen of gallery Johanssen for a chess match against grandmaster Levon Aronian .
I was welcomed for the celebration of the Armenian Christmas. Our host Archi poured us some tasty Armenian Congnac so it was somewhat more bearable that Levon finished me off in 4,5 minutes…he loved the chessboard though…we gave it to him as a present.

INDONESIAN FAIRTRADE PRAMBANAN

From autumn 2007 to spring 2008 I have been to Indonesia together with the designer C.Kocx upon an invitation from DDiD. I was teaching design and trend theory as well as developing products. On the island of Java especially the Yogyakarta region is rich in handicraft, which is produced there under harsh concurrence conditions. In Yogyakarta I have been working with Pekerti, a fair trade foundation which facilitates trainings for the local craftspeople and trades with their products on an international base. In my designs I focused on genuine craft techniques. I used for example Javanese wood screw-connections as well as weaving bamboo fibres in combination with plastics and basket making from Vetiver (Indonesian: Akarwangi, a perfume plant).

Welcome to the first Exhibiton of the J’Adoube chessboard at DIREKTORENHAUS (click here for dates times and address) of gallery Johanssen in Berlin from 4.6 – 30.8.2011.

This expo is the first collaboration with gallery Johanssen and I would like to thank ARPA Industriale for making it possible to show the chessboards (designed for ARPA) there!

The latest addition to the PeLiDesign family: ‘A Machine’s Perception’ door handles. Alexander Pelikan created a series of cutting edge door handles by controlling both possibilities and shortcomings of machines. The exploiting of errors in a 3D scan-file has led to the visualization of a scanners’s perception. With ‘A Machine’s Perception’ door handles, a flawed Virtual Reality became real and tangible. Developed in partnership with: research laboratory TNO Eindhoven and Studio Ludens.
